According to the National English Curriculum, the secondary School English teaching aims for educating all the students, emphasizing quality-oriented education; promoting learners centredness, and respecting individual difference; paying close attention to the learning process, and advocating experiential learning and participation; attaching particular importance to formative assessment, and giving special attention to the development of competence
2. Teaching ideas
Based on the socio-constructivist theory view on language learning, I adopt PWP teaching model to teach students, It
means Pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading, the three steps aim to help students focus their attention to the reading passage, help them comprehend the content step by step, and improve their reading ability.
3. Analysis of the teaching materials
The main content of this part is about the American traditional festival –Thanksgiving. This article is about the origin of Thanksgiving and its traditional food. As for Thanksgiving festival, most students already know it, so, it’s doubtless that students' learning interest is very easy to be aroused .by the end of the lesson,I enable students to know the of origin of Thanksgiving ,its traditional food, its new words and its patterns.
4. Analysis of the students
This period of students are active, lively curious and mart, which demand teachers are having classes with full energy, guide them learning knowledge in discovery, cultivate their autonomous learning ability.
5. Teaching key points: Students should grasp the reading skills and can use them in other articles. Besides, students can describe the origin of Thanksgiving.
6. Teaching difficult point: Students should understand
why people celebrate Thanksgiving and how to make a Thanksgiving turkey.
7. Teaching objectives:
Knowledge objectives: .By the end of the lesson, students should be able to familiar with the new words and know how to use them in daily. Students also should master the sentence patterns.
Ability objectives: Students should be able to narrate the origin of Thanksgiving and describe the making process of a sort of food.
Affect objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should know the difference between china and Europe on the culture of catering and develop a habit of cooperating with each other. 8. Teaching aids: Computer, blackboard, chalks, OHP, some pictures
9. Teaching methods: In order to achieve the best teaching, I mainly use Task-based language teaching. 10. Teaching procedures
Pre-reading, the teacher will use a game to attract students’ attention. Next, the teacher will ask students to discuss the topic. Finally, the teacher will teach some new words which are related to the topic. While-reading, reading the text for the first time,
students will read the text quickly, and then will complete a matching game. The second reading, students will scan the text, and summarize each paragraph. The third reading is careful reading, after reading, students should answer some detailed questions. Post-reading, students will retell the origin of Thanksgiving and the making process of a turkey. Besides, students should act out the making process of a turkey with some pictures. 11. Teaching reflection
In English teaching and learning, reading has been occupying a very important position. Reading can help students not only get information, expand their horizons, enrich language and cultural knowledge, but also can promote other languages abilities, such as listening, speaking, writing. Besides, reading in training students' thinking ability, analysis ability and understanding ability all has an irreplaceable role. In the process of reading class, teachers need carry out colorful activities, to cultivate the students' reading interest, develop reading skill, from the shallower to the deeper, easy to difficult, the known to the unknown, deeply step by step to the teaching content. 12. Homework
You should make a sort of traditional food by yourself and write
down the making process. 13. Blackboard design:
In the middle of blackboard, I will write the title, on the left of blackboard, I will write some new words, on the right, I will write down the patterns.
