My Opinion on Advertisement

As is known to all, angels and evils are poles apart. But is there anything that combines the two perfectly? Some there is-the advertisement. With the growing influence of mass media, advertising invades every aspect of our lives.

Whenever we turn on the TV, look through a newspaper, open the mailbox, or surf on the Internet, advertisements would immediately jump into our sight. As they make things so attractive, we often end up buying things that we do not really need. Advertising not only adds to the price of the goods, thus harming the consumer's interest, but also imposes a kind of materialistic value upon the audience.

But that is only part of the story-advertisements are informative as well as persuasive. They provide us with up-to-date information about the latest products. Some advertisements are so elegantly presented that we are inspired or even moved. No matter it is an evil or an angel, advertisement has become an indispensable part of our modern life.

My view on the Negative Effects of Some Advertisements Nowadays ther are a lot of false advertisements in society. They have caused many harms to society. Generally, their harms can be listed as follows. First, they exaggerate the functions of the goods they advertise and mislead consumers.

Second , some advertisements contain obscene Some people are afraid of pressure. They think that the stresses and strains of work deprive them of joy and happiness. In their view, stress does harm to them both physically and mentally. That is why they prefer something less competitive and strenuous to something more demanding and challenging.

Others argue that stress isn't as bad as it often supposed to be. Unless it is overwhelming, a certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and stimulation. With out stress, you may slack off and idle away your time. It gives contents and bring about spiritual pollution.

Personally, I am usually vigilant against any advertisements and so I have never been taken in. However, some people are credulous and are easily taken in. Therefore, in my opinion, effective measures must be taken to ban false advertisements and protect consumers’interests. First, all the advertisements must be strictly censored by the authorities concerned before they are published. People have offered many solutions to this problem. I think building satellite cities in the suburbs is more practical. The fresh air and beautiful scenery in the suburbs will be appealing to the city citizens, who suffer a lot from air pollution, noises, etc. in the overcrowded city. With more people leaving the city, more space will be available for those remaining. The housing problem in big cities will thus be solved.

In the meantime, I’m against the opinion of utilizing the

underground space to solve the problem. We can imagine how uncomfortable it will be to live under the ground, having to probe in the dark. The air there will be very stuffy. And the cost of building underground houses will be tremendous.

In brief, building satellite cities can not only improve the housing condition in big cities, but also provide a much better living environment. But the housing problem is very complicated. Perhaps people can hardly rely on only one way to solve the problem completely. 2. A Problem Facing Our Society

Nowadays unemployment is becoming a serious problem facing our society. The reasons are twofold. The population is increasing so fast that it has outgrown the jobs available. The other reason is that more and more machines are replacing men because of the increase of technology. Consequently, many people are faced with the problem of unemployment.

The unemployed is a heavy burden to the family and society. Since young women can help with household chores, it is likely that young urban men have nothing to therefore, it is likely that they commit themselves to the wrong doings, or even turn to a life of crime. Unquestionably, they cause a lot of trouble to their family and affect the public order.

We must think of solutions to the problems. There are several possibilities. One is to increase the number of enterprises that create more jobs. Another is to strengthen the family planning policy. More serious penalties for those who refuse to abide by the one-child policy should be legalized. Both population control and jobs available are essential to solving this social problem. 3. The Preservation of Wild Life

Animals in their natural state are part of the wonder of creation and the beauty of our world. However, as a result of the steady growth of the world population, there is less and less room on our planet for wild animals. Unless something is done, some species of animals will cease to exist in their wild state, which also means a disaster to human beings.

One of the effective measures to avoid the extinction of wild animals is for all countries to create nature reserves

From what we see happening in many parts of the world, the main danger to animal existence comes from man’s activities. Urban citizens can appreciate a more colorful life than rural citizens. For country people this is a major operation, which involves considerable planning. Shopping, a necessary activity in everyday life is more convenient in the city than in the country. Townspeople can buy what they want at any time of a day. But rural residents go to town at most once a week. So after shopping they always stagger home loaded with heavy purchases. As far as meals and clothes are concerned, townspeople are well-fed and well –dressed as there is an adequate supply of goods. But rural residents are too busy to pay particular attention to them. It is for these reasons that more and more people are pouring into the city and looking for a nest there. On the contrary, some people are attracted by the rural area. Air pollution, noise and overcrowding which are the biggest problem confronting townspeople seem strange for rural residents. Medical studies have proved that rural residents can live longer than urban residents, because they are free from a contaminated environment. In addition, the crime rate in the city is several times higher than in the countryside. What’s the commonest, wherever the city may be, the life there is much more expensive than in the countryside. So the safe, quiet and cheap life in the country appeals to many city dwellers.

Either an urban or a rural area gives pleasure and trouble. But, I believe, the suburban area has the excellencies of

both and is superior to both. Happy suburbanites can appreciate not only the conveniences and variety of urban life but also peace, safety and quietness of the country. As the automobile industry increases, more and more people will not live in the city the work in. They will make their homes in one of the many large villages that have developed into new suburban areas. 1. Choose a Right Career

Choosing a right career is very important. Most of us spend a great part of our lives at our jobs. It is sensible for us to find out what our talents are and how we can make full use of them. We can do this through aptitude test, interviews with specialists, and study books in our field of interest.

There are many careers open to each of us. If we like science, then we might prepare ourselves to be chemists, physicists, or biologists. Perhaps our interests take us into the business world or public relations. Teaching, newspaper work, medicine, engineer—these and many other fields offer fascinating careers to persons with talent and training.

Unfortunately, many people, for one reason or another, are not suited for the jobs they are doing. For example, a person may be a salesman who really wants to be a doctor. As a result, they probably are not doing a very good job and certainly they are not happy. 2. The value of Time

A proverb says, ―Time is money.‖ But in my opinion, time is even more precious than money. Because when money is spent, we can earn it back, but when time is gone, it will never return.

Time at our disposal is unusually limited. Hence, even an hour is extremely precious. We should make full use of our time to do useful things. As students we must not relax our efforts to engage in our studies so as to serve society and our nation in the future.

It’s a great pity that there are a lot of people who do not know the value of time. They spend their precious time smoking, drinking and idling. They do not realize that wasting time is equal to wasting a part of their valuable life.

We should get into the habit of saving time. Do not put off

what can be done today until tomorrow. Laziness will not only bring us failure but also lead us to the road of poverty.

No doubt, everyone wishes to be successful in life. In discussing this, three fundamental principles, diligence, devotion and constancy, should be borne in mind all the time.

All things that we do can be done well through diligence. It removes ignorance, overcomes difficulties, and enlightens our minds. Yet, whenever we are working, we must carry out our duties efficiently. A persistent spirit is needed to help a person to obtain success. Devotion means to concentrate our effort in doing things. We must know which thing should be done first and then the others, and not to do everything at the same thing.

Furthermore, constancy can also make success a certainty. If we study or work day after day, there is nothing that cannot be achieved. A strong passion can encourage an aimless person to perform a wonderful deed of valor. From doing noble deeds, the happiness involved is immeasurable. Happiness itself is success.

To conclude, hardly could any success be achieved without laboring. Success is simply the fruit of work. 4. Cooperation Goes with Competition

In our times, cooperation and competition spread all over the world. Both of them speed up the wheel of economy and enrich the intelligence of mankind. It is impossible to accomplish a complicated program by only one person now. As we know, the more cooperation a company depends on , the more efficient it will become in business. Furthermore, we can’t avoid competition in our exchanges. From time to time, we compare ourselves with others, expecting to catch up with others. This is the spirit of competition, by which we pursue the higher goal. It is only by competition in the market that a company can raise its reputation. Were it not for competition, say, all of us would not enjoy what we have achieved.

But, competition cannot go without cooperation; cooperation may result in competition. Consider how we improve our standard of living if we live in an indifferent society where there isn’t any cooperation. Cooperation is

the warm wind, touching our hearts gently and making us happy inside. Competition is the tough storm, testing our character and training our skills. So I believe that these two aspects of one matter may not benefit our life and work until they are associated with each other. 5. To Be Master of One’s Own Fate

“Perseverance triumphs over fate.‖ But believers of fate always say that one’s fate is predetermined and controlled by circumstances. Still they give examples to illustrate. For instance, some diligent people work hard and may die poor, but lazy people become millionaires overnight. Yet, I think these are only a few exceptional cases and most of tasks can be achieved by men of determination and perseverance. We should not believe in fate at all. Everyone looks like the architect of one’s own future. He designs the building with care. The better the construction materials are, the longer it will stand. With a firm foundation, a grand skyscraper may erect. Our life should be prepared in the same way, too.

We should not believe in fortune-telling. It sometimes may be true by chance only. I remember an old Chinese story. One day a farmer caught a hare while he was resting under a tree. He was ignorant enough to believe that he might do so again. He waited for a rabbit every day at the same place. He wasted his time in vain. It is quite true that ―nothing is ventured, nothing is gained‖. Keep in mind that ―where there is a will, there is a way .‖ We should try to be the master of our own fate. 1. Market Competition

Currently China is experiencing a transition from planned economy to market-oriented economy. There exists fierce competition among enterprises. How to survive in the competition is a cause for anxiety to almost every manufacturer. The key to success lies in the following four points: market investigation, development of new products, product quality and improvement of technology. As one of the essential elements, market research should be given priority because it can offer you a clear picture of the situation of supply and demand for certain commodities.
